Bloomingdale Academy

Project Overview
In July 2014, work began on the Bloomingdale Academy project for the MG3 Developer Group. The primary objective was to design and secure permits for a new charter school complete with athletic facilities. Over the course of three years, ending in August 2017, the site underwent a complete transformation from a vacant, semi-forested lot into a fully realized educational campus.
During the development process, the team encountered a significant site constraint. The project faced a major obstacle in that there was simply insufficient room on the property to install standard stormwater infrastructure while still accommodating the school and its extensive athletic fields.
To overcome this spatial limitation, the team engineered a creative solution that became a major highlight of the project. They successfully designed an underground stormwater treatment and attenuation system directly beneath the athletic fields. Additionally, they over-excavated and lined a pond to provide the necessary extra attenuation, ensuring the site met all stormwater requirements without compromising the client's goals.
Key Obstacles
• Insufficient room for stormwater infrastructure.
Key Highlights and Wins
• Designed underground stormwater treatment & attenuation system under the athletic fields.
• Over-excavated and lined pond to provide additional attenuation.
